About

What this site is, and what it refuses to be

An independent buying guide to Olympic barbells sold in the UK. 52 bars from 9 brands across 6 shops, compared on the manufacturers' own published figures. It sells nothing, it publishes no prices, and it reviews nothing.

The problem this site exists to solve

Search for a barbell and you will find a great many pages confidently ranking the best bars of the year. Almost none of them have been written by anyone who owns the bars, and a good proportion exist to move you toward whichever product pays the highest commission. The specifications, where they appear at all, are frequently wrong, copied between sites until nobody knows where the number came from.

That is a real problem for a purchase like this, because a barbell is bought on numbers. You cannot hold most of these bars before buying, and the things that decide whether a bar suits you — shaft diameter, what the sleeve rotates on, what it has been load tested to — are all published figures you should be able to compare side by side.

So that is what this site does, and nothing more.

Three rules

Every figure is quoted, never estimated

Each specification on this site comes from the manufacturer's or the retailer's own product page. If a maker does not publish a figure, the table prints an em dash rather than a guess. Three UK sellers — Wolverson Fitness, Watson Gym Equipment and Primal Strength — were left out entirely because none publishes a specification complete enough to tabulate honestly. They may well sell excellent bars; we simply cannot compare what is not published.

No reviews, no scores, no rankings

Nobody here has trained on this equipment. A review by someone who has not used the thing is worthless, and a ranking built on such reviews is worse, because it wears the appearance of knowledge. So there are no stars, no scores, no "best bar" verdicts, and there never will be unless that changes and the page says so explicitly.

What the site does instead is explain how to judge a bar, in the guides, so you can reach your own conclusion with better information than you started with.

No prices

Barbell prices change constantly, with sales, with steel costs and with exchange rates. A stale price is worse than no price, and publishing a wrong price on a site like this is a problem under UK advertising rules. Every bar page links to the shop and asks you to check the current price there.

How it makes money

At the moment, it does not. This site is not in any affiliate programme, and every outbound link is a plain link with no tracking, no programme ID and no commission attached. That may change — these sites are usually funded by affiliate commission, and this one probably will be.

If it does, the disclosure will appear at the top of every page carrying such a link, before the content it applies to, as UK CMA and ASA guidance requires. It will not be a line in the footer. And it will not change what gets listed, because what gets listed is decided by whether the maker publishes a specification.

Who writes it

The site carries no personal byline, no founder photograph and no claim of personal expertise, deliberately. Articles are attributed to OlympicBars.co.uk. There is no individual here whose authority you are being asked to take on trust, because the site does not rest on anyone's authority — it rests on quoting published figures accurately and telling you where they came from.

Getting something wrong

Manufacturers revise specifications, and a figure correct when this site was built may not be correct now. If you find a number here that does not match the shop's own page, please say so and it will be corrected. That is the one way this site can fail at the only job it has.

Always confirm anything that matters to you on the shop's own page before ordering.

A site that reviews nothing is more use than a site that pretends to have reviewed everything.

No scores. No rankings. No prices. No affiliate links, yet.
